Air intake options (custom)

 So I'd like to strip out the airbox and I've read through the cone air cleaner thread but I'd like to look at other options.

 I've included a few examples and I was wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't try some of these air intakes and cleaners.  I know nothing about mounting them and such but I'd like to try.

Read up on intake theory, then take action.
Some experiments have been done.
Straws were used in one.
Length of the runner matters.
Generally, the volume of the intake between the carb and filter needs to be at least the volume of the cylinder.

Intakes rely on the low pressure created by the piston falling. Exhaust gets shoved out.
A restricted intake can keep exhaust gas from moving out during the overlap.
A tuned intake will have a wave standing when the valve opens.



Under the hood of the car there is a chamber molded into the side of the intake runner even before the filter. I wonder what RPM makes it resonate.

I use a silicone rubber transition to a 2"
tee and twin vw air filters.

You have to think of the 2 options shown in the links as very expensive jewelry for your bike. And if you're doing it for that purpose, you'll be nicely accessorized. If not mistaken, they do accommodate a K&N filter. Any performance benefits are negligible.

Call me a tight wad, but the price of the hypercharger is approaching what I paid for my Savage. And then, don't let my bias keep you from doing what you want with your bike. I have my preferences as well. Make it your own.

Doesn't exactly sound like a Savage, now does it.

From what, and how does that translate into flow optimization for our intake?

Tweaked you say? Well sign me up! I love it when the engineers tweak things...what's that...oh it was the marketing department. Never mind.

I think this filter housing will go perfectly with your bike. Let us know what your riders think of it.

Some of those expensive ones create a obstruction , then attempt to correct it, and in the end do nothing.  I want the vacuum to be sucking gas and air ,  not moving flaps open and closed.

 Yeah those links aren't the exact items I am looking to add, just examples of something other than a reverse facing cone filter.

 I like the split with filters on either side.  Even a round filter in the back, who knows.  I was just looking for some input but maybe I should find some applicable filters if I can find them and ask from there.

 When I'd work on my older Cadillacs it was basically an issue of getting more air in.  Those 4 barrel carbs pulled a ton of air in and if it fit under a stock hood you could almost guarantee it wanted more air.

I have a Hypercharger on my Sporty; a waste of money.
It is just an expensive cover over a normal K&N filter.
It was put on by the previous owner.
I am replacing it with a nice simple velocity stack with micro screen filter.

We turned the air cover lids over. Sucking the air that engine runs through it through that little horn or even pair of horns just hazta cut into performance.

I use a 2" pvc pipe extension inside a gutted stock air box ,total length of my intake is 17" (which acts like 18") ,filters of the "Oldfeller" design(2),have been custom made and moved to the outside walls of the air box. this gives me a 4% boost in VE between 3800and 4500rpm,and a 7% boost in VE between 4900-5600rpm.The bike looks stock ,but preforms a bit better.
