All you need is a little rain, and some imagination. You'll be backing it in and spinning it up before you know it.   Grin

I was talking to a fellow who is a road racer and very able road rider....he rides a Ducati MultiStrada as his road bike, and he can wear out a set of tires in 4-5 days of riding in the mountains as his group rides very quickly.  I showed him my tires and the thin strip of unused rubber on the edge - I told him that thin strip is there so that I never have a trip to the Emergency Room.

He said that on the track they are called "Chicken" strips - but on the street they are called "Safety" strips.  He said that on the street you should not be riding right over to the edge.....that the road conditions demand that you keep a margin of safety for that unexpected bump, slick spot, debris, etc.

There is no shame in having an unused strip of rubber on the edges of your street bike tires.  Most of the fellows that ride over on the edge of their tires on regular basis also have some pretty deep road rash scratches in their leathers.

That's some great advice! I tell people all the time not go push their limits on the street. The track is really the only place for that. Not to mention all the different factors that come in to play when it comes to tire wear, and especially with the front tire. The compound, tire profile, suspension set up, all play a part. I've been an inch away from dragging my elbows and still had strips left at times.

It wasn't a goal, I just noticed it. It's a fifteen year old tire.
I'm cooling it till I get the new one on.

Great news guys! I got her fired up, and was to take her for a few laps around the neighborhood! It was a good day.

I ended taking apart the carb, and cleaning thoroughly, replaced a few damaged hoses, cleaned the petcock, cleaned all the rust out of the tank, and I guess that's all she needed.

Thanks for all of the pointers and suggestions.

I doubt either of us would keep up with Maine 413 style!

Excuse the crappy cropping, trying to post too large file sizes from a phone with no resizing. Just had to crop it to fit

Yep, that appears to be playing it a little too safe.  Obviously a new rider with an attitude.

Is your tank rusted through ?  As in, it has a hole/holes in it ?
If not, then you can get some muriatic acid and remove ALL rust in very short order; only takes a couple of minutes; then flush with water.

If you do want another tank, I have a spare tank as well that is in excellent condition.  It is a light grey with a hint of green.  $50+shp.

Is your tank still for sale? I just received my aftermarket tank today, but I don't think I'm going to keep it.
