Modifications for tall dudes
06/28/17 at 08:52:51

I'm 6'6" tall and new to the Suzuki Savage world, and really motorcycles in general.  This is my fist bike.  What kinds of modifications can I make to make it more fitted for me to ride?

Bike Details:
  • 1996 Suzuki Savage
  • Stock seat
  • Windshield was added by previous owner
  • Saddle bags added by previous owner
  • Stock foot pegs (I think)

Rider Details (me)
  • 6' 6" Male
  • 230 lbs

I'm also a cyclist.  So for example, on my bicycle I use a longer seat post for proper leg extension.  I also set the saddle back for proper arm extension.

What fitting/sizing options do I have for my badass Savage?

Thanks !
Barrett

You have a choice of changing everything or changing everything.  Huh

Just depends on what's 1st and how much.

Stock seat vs. custom seat - Stock is lower, custom can be further back.

apes vs. drags/risers - drop the buckhorns, no question.  apes will give you a full range of motion that can go farther forward, but may make the grip angle uncomfortable.  drags and risers won't allow much variation.

extended foot controls - select according the seat choice.  at your height even the longest may not be enough.

Check the marketplace threads.  Up top I believe Ed still makes extended forward controls.  Some 6 inchers might help you out.

I don't care for the 96 stock handlebars so I changed them out twice.  One bike had Keystone bars and the current has Drag bars, I can imagine Keystones would feel better if you are taller.

Extended forks exist and may or may not be your thing, just search "extended forks" and there's a few threads regarding options and opinions.  I'm partial to fork extension but not rake degree addition, then again I don't ride much and I'm not skilled at it.

Ok sounds like ape hanger handle bars, extended foot controls and maybe a custom seat.

Thanks guys that's what I was after.

Sounds easier than having eight inches removed between knees and ankles.  But if you Did go that way, you would always have a job in the circus.

Put 6" forward controls, standard sportster handlebars, put a very firm pad on seat and cover it with a wal mart atv pad.  I am 6ft 2 and these mods  made my s40 one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever owned.
