Valve adjustment question

I once had a BSA on which the recommended method of adjusting the valves was to turn the adjusting screw in until in touched the valve and then backing it out the correct part of a turn that equated to 0.005". On the BSA this equated from memory to 1/8 of a turn. This was an easy and accurate method that did not rely on trying to get feeler gauges in tight spots. All you need to know is the Turns per inch of the adjusting screw so that you can work out how much of a turn is required for the clearance. Does anyone know what the TPI of the adjusting screw in our engines is?

Do your cylinder head bolts the same way ? Oh that's tight enough ! I prefer to know it's done correctly right down to a knats a$$ ! I've owned many a BSA , still have one.

0.006" is too much and it isn't 90 degrees if the thread pitch is 0.75mm.

You'll note that there are a second set of lines.
Those lines are for .005"
So, that's less than 90°, but a little bit more than the calculated 60° Tongue

The 90 degrees for 006" is just a reference. Like you say around 60 degrees is close to the correct clearance. Main thing is to know how much clearance one complete turn gives so that the portion of a turn for the correct clearance can be calculated. Again thanks for the info.
