Spark Plug Gets Loose (Read 60 times)

When I change the spark plug the old one is very loose almost finger tight in some cases. Of course it lowers the compression and power band. Any usable ideas or comments for a fix? I don't want to over torque the plug or use loctite on it.

You're not leaking anything out around all those threads unless you can see the plug is backing out. The gaps on the ring ends are huge in their areas that allow gasses to pass compared to the threads. If you have to use a tool to spin the plug the threads are pulled into contact with each other.

I've seen two stroke model plane motors that ran harder and faster than others that showed a crescent of light around the piston. The power pulse creates a strong but very short high pressure event.

One to create a spark for ignition and 2 to seal the combustion chamber so it will build and sustain compression for the the big bang. If it's leaking then it won't allow as big of a bang period. So why the hell do the plugs get loose and how do you keep them tight?

The gasket on the sparkplug is not for sealing, it is to prevent it backing out.
The fit of the threads is enough to prevent leakage.

After all the black stuff around the threads isn't because it's leaking compression it must just be some kind of burned oil or dirt and oil that just smells like combustion. IDK either?

Posts: 3806 osceola new york Gender:	Re: Spark Plug Gets Loose Reply #7 - 06/18/17 at 18:53:38 Why not use a torque wrench? torque 7-15 ft/lbs for a 14mm plug,15-20 ft/lbs for a 18mm plug. the head bolts are torqued why not the plug?lube the threads oil or antisieze.
