Hard start after new cam chain tensioner

Hello, I have a 2001 Savage w/ raptor petcock at 8k miles.
Installed the verslavy cam chain tensioner and ever since the bike is very hard to start.
Before it would always start under 2 seconds, now it takes multiple tries and will shut off at idle until fully heated up.

Any idea what's up and how to diagnose and fix?

I would put a new sparkplug in and check the decomp adjustment.

Sounds like the valve timing may have jumped a few teeth. Was the chain really loose when you installed the tensioner? Or you knocked loose some crap in the gas tank when installing the new petcock and right in the carb (pilot) jet.

I tried to get it to do that once, it would not with a half stretched chain.
So, unless you had the cam chain off, I doubt that it's off timing.

I've seen a very loose chain jump a few teeth, and it affects drivability. Usually affects idle range.

The bike runs good, feels like 10% low on power which could be 90+F heat we are getting in Joshua Tree, or memory is not accurate. Still, runs well hard to redline.  IT HAS stopped backfiring as much and doesn't do the loud THUNDER BELCH after shutdown.  Too bad, I liked it.

Also note that the starter does seem to be engaging as there is a whhirr and crank rotation.  I hold over 5 seconds and no start.  :'(
Petcock was installed years ago so not suspecting that.

I'll try new plug, also thinking the few weeks it sat waiting for tensioner fouled the carb.  

Chain was a bit stretched, had to use the 2nd hole on verslavy and still it extended a couple mm out.  I didn't notice and chain teeth slipping Lips Sealed

Piston at tdc.
See if the valves are still evenly adjusted.

If it runs past 50, then it's not a timing chain problem.
It'll run diffferently in the morn, temp affect the lean/rich setting.

A couple of mm out ?did the spring go hard? that sounds awful tight to me ,4-6mm would sound more normal to me ,maybe you switched to the second hole prematurely ,putting a lot of stress on the chain, and the cam bearings.You got the Vercy there is no danger going back to the first hole ,8,000 miles sounds early to need the second hole unless you've ridden it awfully hard.
