Bernoullis Principle and the Pitot Tube

Some of the principles that our carbs are based on. Super nerdy!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz1g6kqvUG8

And the guy talks about the Pitot Tube as a device that an aircraft can use to measure it's speed. All based on Bernoulli's Principle. Fluid Science = Fun!

Fluid dynamics. As boring today as it was when I was in college.

There's a static side too, which I wasn't going to neglect (hence the operative "science"). I could study this all day if I had time, but, math and science aren't for everyone! Nonetheless, thanks for chiming in, Greg!

Are there any science enthusiasts on the forum?

I never had a slide rule or pocket protector, but I totally dig science.

Well, I did enjoy learning about that stuff in college and I do find that I have a better understanding of how things work as a result.  I found the physics and the first two quarters of "statics and dynamics" fun....in the 1st quarter you learned how to analyse the forces in static objects, and in the 2nd quarter things moved and accelerated.  In the 3rd quarter things were spinning and that was OK.........until they were spinning and accelerating in 3 dimensions (9 equations of motion).

I believe that most of the problems I solved when I took my test to get my Engineering License were fluid mechanics problems.

But when it comes to thermodynamics......forgetaboutit!

Rocket scientist deal with it all the time.....calculating the motion of a moon circling a planet in relation to the earth or sun.  I work on streets, water and sewage......I don't work in a world where things spin.

..calculating the motion of a moon circling a planet in relation to the earth or sun..

My lab partner was a good mathemagician. I did the hands on, he did the math, we made good grades.

Next time you are in a restaurant....get 2 straws.

Have one of them vertical in your water glass, and then take the second one and hold horizontal and about 90 degrees to the vertical one..with the end right at the top of the straw in the water but not overlapping....then put your mouth on the other end of the horizontal straw and blow.

You have created a simple carburetor or spray gun!

Yep,  and I have modified my air blower by ditching the rubber tip and putting 1/8"brass tubing in. And a small piece of tubing with a hole in it ,,I can poke the blower nozzle in and pull fluids up and spray them.
The nozzle under a rocket is a heck of thing.. I forget the name of it, NOPE! I remember,, de laval, don't understand it, but I like it..
