Will inexpensive Fork Upgrade Fit?
06/07/17 at 14:04:41

I've been looking at these forks on eBay, and I am wondering if there is some way to make them fit on the savage. I do not know if it would be possible to do a triple tree clamp switch. What do you guys think?

A couple of thoughts;

With the right tools and know how, you can make almost any forks fit. What is your experience with customizing mechanical devices.

What wheel hub and brakes will you be adapting? Do you want the front wheel to match the rear? What steering head bearing will work with these forks in the stock head tube?

Why those forks? Why not a known brand like Showa, Kayaba or WP? Those are unknown forks from an unknown manufacturer. What is the valving stack? What is the method of dampening? Where will you get technical support and parts?

What else are you going to do you the Savage to accommodate those forks?

These forks because they're gold and that's cool, good for cafe' racer look. Also it's hard to beat $150 for a front end.

Would you be able to fit or adapt the 240mm rod through the stock head tube? - Of course, I've never done this before and I don't wanna end up owning a $150 dollar pair of shocks that can't be added.

My experience is moderate when it comes to mechanical devices. Hopefully would be able to keep the current stock hub and brake, but idk.

If you want to keep the stock hub you'll probably have to have spacers turned. The stock brake is garbage, why use it. The bracket on the forks determines caliper location and rotor size.

BTW, many sport bikes use Gold forks and can be had for the same price. And they come from real suspension companies. I have a strong feeling that these forks are total crap.

Good luck.

My experience with a triple tree/fork yoke swap is......don't do this switch.

The Savage triple trees have a pretty big offset in the Savage, and the fork tubes are forward of the spindle a significant amount.  This helps to reduce the trail that occurs when you have a shallow fork angle typical of a cruiser motorcycle.  When you install a triple tree where the fork tubes are closer to the spindle....you increase the trail.

When I did my Cafe' bike I installed a set of Suzuki RM triple trees form a motocross bike.  It required a lot of adapting, and looked good - but it steered badly.  With the narrow clip on handlebars and increased trail it was very hard to initiate a turn.  It would turn and corner fine - but you really had to push on the bars.  MMRanch rode my bike and said when he got to the first turn and began the turn - "It felt like I was trying to bend a board".

Since then I went back to the stock fork yokes, and it steers much better.

The easiest swap that I have found was to use the complete front end from a Suzuki VS800/S50. It gives you an instant brake upgrade and puts the speedometer up in the triple tree.

How tall are they? I think like others their most likely junk ,that you'll have a hard time fitting (if you even can)from a no name place ,with no future parts available .I think Elvis named a song after them "heartbreak Hotel"

Will inexpensive Fork Upgrade Fit?

The semantics say a lot.
What IS an Upgrade?
The word itself says it. It's a Better one of whatever you are talking about.
Finding something that requires metals being cast and machined and shipped and sold and everyone along the line makes money that is Really affordable might be a clue as to its quality.
Rarely do we get what we pay for, but nearby always do we pay for what we get.

Changing parts isn't necessarily an Upgrade.
