Savage to Harley Headlight adapter
05/25/17 at 10:20:22

ADAPTER

This adapter mounts to the stock Savage lower triple tree, and allows you to use a Harley Davidson headlight on the Savage.  The adapter includes the needed Grade 10.9 bolts, nylon insert lock nuts and stainless washers.

HEADLIGHT

The after, arlet "Harley" style headlight bucket has a very small wire hole at the back of the light, and it is too small for the Savage wire to stick through.  I have modified the headlight bucket by removing the existing wiring, drilling a larger hole at the back with a Unibit, and installing a larger grommet.

I have not included any headlight reflector, so you can buy whatever 7" headlight reflector you want to use.  I will include a link to some of the choices you have.  You can use a reflector that uses an H4 style bulb that is a standard filament or LED.  Or you can use a Daymaker style LED insert.....you will just need to choose one that fits in the bucket and buy it.

The cost of the adapter, hardware a new modified bucket and shipping in a medium flat rate box is $ 150 - you need to supply the reflector/lens or Daymaker style LED.

Here is a photo of the headlight installed on Gary_from_NJ's bike.

I only have one headlight bucket and adapter available at this time.

I do have one other headlight bucket - I will machine another adapter as time allows.......it likely will be a while as my grass won't stop growing.

No CAD drawing......just a bad sketch.  The hole that is marked as slotted does not need to be oval and can be round, and just big enough for the 6mm screw to pass through.  My initial thought was the slotted hole would provide for the ability to provide some left/right aim - turns out it isn't needed and the light is aimed well when it is mounted true to the bottom yoke.

Years ago I was able to provide a means of mounting a 7" headlight on the Savage.  A larger headlight is really needed on the Savage, as the original headlight is not very good at lighting up the road.  I can't remember everyone that got one - but I do know Lancer, Gary_from_NJ, Stewmills and Youzguyz have them.

I was able to get some of these adapters made pretty reasonably, then I had to find a new supplier and the price to make a low volume batch was just too expensive.

I have two headlight buckets remaining - so I went ahead and made a bracket by hand to complete one more kit.  When it sells I will likely make one more to get the other headlight bucket off my shelf......however it may take a while for the second one to be finished.

If you want a bigger headlight......this is your chance.

You can use a 7" reflector like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Hella-002395031-HLMP-165MM-ECE/dp/B005OULUQO/ref=asc_d...

You can use a Silverstar H4 filament bulb.
https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-SilverStar-Performance-Headlight-Contains/dp/...

If you want an LED - it is important that you buy one with good control of the light pattern.  I have tried quite a few that are really bad - Lasfit and Cyclops are good LED's.

Affordable Lasfit LED's.
https://www.lasfit.com/collections/h4

If you want the best H4 LED - get the Cyclops:
https://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/Cyclops-100-H4-LED-headlight-bulb_p_19...

I don't know much about the Daymakers....by the time you buy a reflector and an LED these may be as cheap - however it is not a look that looks right on my Cafe' bike:
https://www.eaglelights.com/collections/all-7-led-headlights?

First come/first serve for the one that is completed.

For the second one you can be the next in line and commit to buying it, and I will reserve it for you.
