I have used wunderground for years now and it is almost scary how accurate it is.  What kind of technology do they have that the other forecasters don't?   Shocked

Best regards,

I called MM, he's out on his tractor bailing Hay.   He'll ring in this evening.

It is 8:30 PM and I spoke with Mike, he should be saying something shortly.

Just catching up on things since Friday. If the weather is looking cruddy, I can come another long weekend EXCEPT the following weekend of June 23-25 as I have a family trip planned.

Otherwise, let's hope the weather holds out!

Well, its getting worse, not better.

https://www.wunderground.com/q/zmw:28733.4.99999

I am officially saying "I'm out -- trip for me is called on account of rain" and I will be finding alternate things to do for Mon-Tuesday and planning on going back to work on Wednesday.

Might I suggest we plan on trying again later on.

The entire month of July is open, but historically July has its daily thunderstorms to deal with.

These last past 2 weeks  (first weeks in June) seems to come up good as the ongoing thunderstorms start about the week after that.

It is funny, the weather gets "summertime warm" and the ongoing thunderstorms instantly crank up .....

I won't be coming until the weather clears up....if the weather forecast changes for something better at the end of the week - I could be interested in a Thursday/Friday/Saturday go home on Sunday attendance.  Stewmills and Badwolf weren't going to be arriving until then anyhow - however Badwolf had several days of riding to get to the area late Thursday.

We will just have to wait and see if things dry up.

I can do the next weekend as I already have our first overnight motorcycle trip with the wife....then the following weekend is the 4th of July weekend and that is probably not a good weekend to be riding on tourist infested roads.

Perhaps we are planning too far out ?

I need to be home for Fathers day so I have to ride home Saturday , no matter what may be .

How about :

The week of June 25 - 30
Or
The week of June 18 - 23

The next week is July 4th.

Anybody want to go to North Dakota the first week of August ?   Roll Eyes

If the weather changes to "GOOD" , how about a Thursday night (15 June) , Friday day ride , ride home Saturday .    Huh

It's tough enough to meet family at the steak house.
Getting a buncha guys together to ride bikes in fun places And get the weather to cooperate,  wow.

I'm still available to make a last minute "go-no-go" decision as late as Wednesday night. I'd need to be loaded up Wednesday night so I can head out Thursday immediately after work. It is a 4 hour truck trip for me.

Otherwise, I'm game for another weekend except NEXT weekend of June 23, and I didn't think about July 4 but I probably want to avoid that weekend as well as has been noted.

We attempt to plan ahead so that working folks can schedule their vacation time....and so family issues can be sorted out.  If we only want 1 or 2 of us on the outings - then a last minute "Hey let's go ride this weekend" approach could work.  The weather for this trip looked to be clear and sunny 2 weeks out - the forecast change occurred just 3 days before you and Oldfeller were scheduled to leave.

Both Stewmills and I are available for the 15th - 18th if the weather clears up.  Let's keep track of the weather and make a decision on Wednesday afternoon.....at the moment Thursday is forecast to be the wettest day, and Friday isn't much better.

This year we have learned some stuff.

Forget about cabins, the $$$ penalty for a weather based cancellation is severe when you are talking cabins.

Weather in the mountains can change COMPLETELY inside a 24-48 hour time window.   It has shown us this twice now.

What do we do now?

Roll Eyes

Punt .....

I think for the farm based trips we intentionally bring some rainy day activities (shooting) and we just plan to be all flexible about it.

I live in South Florida, if I did not ride whenever the weatherman predicted rain I would stay in the house 8 or 9 months a year!
I will be at the KSL Thursday as stated.
If the weather is rainy, I won't go up Mt Mitchell however, done that before on a bicycle and all you can see is the parking lot!
I'll post updates on the weather after I get there.

BadWolf , I like your attitude !     Grin

The weather forecast I'm seeing on weather channel doesn't look encouraging .
...at the moment Thursday is forecast to be the wettest day, and Friday isn't much better.

Think you're ''safer'' staying at home?

A man in Rochester, New York, is "just happy to be alive," after he was struck by lightning while sitting in his office on Monday, the Associated Press reported.

Nick Gemayel was sitting in his office at an auto repair shop when he saw a bright flash from the light switch, he told the AP. The power went out and after several minutes, he realized his hand was blistering.

The bolt had surged through the light switch and hit his left hand. He was later treated at a local hospital and released.
