Posts: 29 Northern New Hampshire Gender:	Rejecting necessary? 05/11/17 at 16:01:54 Evening fellas; I've located a practically brand new Harley Dyna muffler from my local Harley dealer for about $40 bucks. Before I pull the trigger and buy it, is rejetting the carb absolutely necessary! Does the muffler effect the air/fuel ratio that much? Thanks in advance for the advice. Chris

Reply #1 - 05/11/17 at 16:23:27 The stock bikes are already lean, and just drilling holes in the end of the stock muffler often requires a re-jet. So, yes, you will most likely need to re-jet. Thanks for the replies and link.

So I am here in NH, at an elevation of 900 feet.
According to my GPS, my elevations run from say 400 feet to 2500 feet where I can ride....but mostly no higher than 1800.

I would start with a #150 main, #50 pilot, and 3 of the #4 machine screw washers in place of the white spacer. If you need to open the idle fuel mixture screw up more than 2.5 turns for a good idle - then try a #52.5 pilot (turn the idle speed down when adjusting the fuel mixture...then turn it back up after the adjustment is made).

If you have a lean surge at low throttle .....like when you pull away from a stop sign in a School Zone.....then remove 1 of the washer and only run 2 washers.

I've thought about it , but every time I'm there there is someone hanging around out back. I need to check it out when they are closed. I expect they rarely ditch newish Dyna mufflers that are what I want. The scrap yard is probably where they wind up.

They often do muffler swaps and will have them, and not being a Harley dealer they will usually 'let them go' real cheap to help us little guys out. I got two practically new mufflers with two heat shields from a small independent shop for $40.
