Broomstick custom bars a la TSC
04/29/17 at 18:24:43

Good afternoon all

I couldnt take my narrow buckhorns anymore so I blew 15 bucks on 1 inch tube at the local Tractor supply.

Hit my local cycle gear for some bar end mirrors but they dont fit.  Me thinks i fell victim to 7/8 trap. Angry   Is there an advisable fix better than wrapping them in electrical tape to fortify the additional 1/8 inch?

Can anyone provide a link for a pair that they already have?

Here is a quick look.   Stock risers and a credit card will slide between for clearance

There may be a dented tank in your future, I'd think about some risers, you could even make your own with deep sockets and longer bolts, just high enough so if the bike were to fall over and the bars bent they will clear the top of the tank. Your bar is cheaper than fixing a damaged tank.A credit card isn't much clearance when you consider the tank is rubber mounted and moves side to side.

Very true...

Was going to head to lowes in the am to look into that.   Much more a fan of these than the buckhorns though.   A few miles this week if the rain stops will tell the whole story.

A 2" spacer maybe all you need.
But that broomstick might kill your wrists after a short while, they did mine.

As for the bar ends, what kind of expanding clamp?
Metal or rubber?  Not much you can do with rubber.
Metal? go find a tube that will just slip into the 1" tube.
Slit it on one end thru both sides, then from the other end at 90"
and you should have a nice expanding spacer.

Thanks Vers

I was wondering if the left over bar would suffice for risers... Just need to get longer bolts.

I will look for something that fits inside the bar as it is a metal inside clamp.   2 metal angled pieces like inside a gooseneck of a bicycle.

Go figure wife was cool about tearing the engine down to helicoil.  Fine to strip it down to paint.  Even entertained me swapping the tires out with the new ones.    Think i just gave her grey hairs when i touched the handlebars.

If you find the bars hurt your wrists ,you can find someone with a pipe bender or head to a place that sells HD parts , and buy a drag bar that has about a 15 degree pull back ,I ran a set like that for a few years and really liked them ,I think I only paid about $30 .If you decide to use sockets for your risers I think their 19 mm , 1/2" drive ,but you should take one of your stock risers to the store with you ,and you'll need to buy bolts that will fit down the hole in the socket.I don't think using part of the old bar will work ,the hole in the socket keeps it centered ,and makes for a solid fit up. The bars are rubber mounted ,and there would be to much play just using a hollow piece of "pipe' (think dangerous).

If you need risers. Ask Versy if he will make you a custom set of the exact height needed.

Worked for me. Smiley

I've got a couple of drag bars; if you want one all you need do is pay for shipping to your door.
Better than a straight bar.

I just bought a pair of risers from an S40 on Ebay last week for $40.00 including shipping. They are in decent shape, included the rubber expansion inserts but not the top plates.
