Also with the VW, there was no police issues with the appearance of racing or "excessive show of speed". The "race" only lasted to about 40 mph. No screeching tires or loud mufflers to give away our activities.

I had a 68 karmen  ghia ,stock1500cc but rev it at a red light next to a vette, the guy in the vette would be laughing but when the light chained I'd be through the intersection before he got moving(4;11 stock rearend and not enough power to spin the wheels,it was like a slingshot) shift to second ,and let off at 35mph, vette shot by at 50 ,cops always on the side street about 4 blocks up OOPS! and me smiling as I drove by doing my 35.Such fun!
