Throttle tube
04/16/17 at 16:06:12

Awhile back I bought some Biltwell Thruster Grips and bought a stock throttle tube off fleabay. So that tube has rings & ribs that need removed ,using my bench grinder I removed all the ribs and the ring. But still needed to remove the step before that last ring , removed the tiny lug next to the ring with a razor knife. Now to remove the step and leave the last ring , I was thinking a lathe but I don't have one , so I found a arbor for a cylinder type sander removed sanding cylinder put it in the tube and tightened it till it expanded inside the tube then put arbor in my drill press. Then found my sharpest wood chisel , started drill press and using back of chisel , so it wouldn't dig in , removed the step , then used a sanding block to smooth it all out and finish with coarse steel wool. What a lot of work just to get a grip on. But it turned out nice. Some wd40 and install the thruster grip , left grip better not take that long.

I installed some Bitwell grips last week. I also bought a generic throttle tube. I couldn't figure out how to reduce the diameter of the ring where the switch box clamps around the tube. It sounds like you did a good job getting it to fit.

In the end I just filed the ribs down on the stock throttle tube. I left them just a touch proud. I used hairspray to get them on. It starts off as a lubricant and dries into a glue.

The left side just slid on with the hairspray.

I've done a fair bit of riding since installing them, and all seems good  Smiley

I left a little of each rib so I wouldn't need any glue, works great

Biltwell says use wd40 , so I wanted to try it. Glues always seem to fail after some time. If they don't stay in place I'll try the hair spray. It's raining again here in CA so it will have till next Saturday to dry out. I really like the size & feel of the grips and for 18 bucks think I found some nice 1" grips for the Tracker and maybe the Sportster too !

Yes with raised diamond shape pattern , but not mushy. They come either straight grip or flanged grip like dirt bike grip. I like flanged grips. Found them on fleabay.

The Bitwells I bought have a micro-dot pattern and no flange. They also bulge a little through the  middle of the grip.

They're very firm once installed.

Yeah , I like the smaller diameter and after all the years of off road riding & racing I really like the flanged grips. Tried a lot of things but never hair spray !

WD40 seems to have got them on good. Really liking the Biltwell Thruster Grips , easy to hang on, cushy not mushy , just what I wanted !

I bought a set of Biltwell Recoil grips and had them on the bike for almost a week now.
These are flangeless and have a bit of radius to the grip length like a gran turismo grip.
I like them, they are about as stiff as stock grips with a diamond pattern to the grip.
Went on the bar and sleeve w/out any glue, just used air to slip them on.
