How do you guys inflate your rear tire?
03/13/17 at 08:22:11
Today I learned that the drum brake on the rear wheel is too big for the free gas station air pump nozzle to fit on the tire stem.
Presumably, everyone else already knows this, and I would guess I need an air pump of my very own.
Canvassing to find out what other people use/do/suggest to pump their tires...
Thanks!

It might be obvious. A 90 degree air chuck is what is required. Photo follows:

I bought a 90* pressure gage just for the Suzuki. And I have my own compressor. I can imagine it could be difficult when on the road :'(

When you change out your rear tire, make sure you get a tube with a 90 degree valve stem:

And make sure you (or the installer of your choice) puts the tube in so the stem points to the brake side of the wheel.

This is the best way to make it easy. I get mine from the same site youzguys linked. Some shops carry these but not usually in the stock Savage rear tire size. I've gone to the 140/90 which makes tube selection more broad, just like the tires. In the meantime, you can try extensions.

Tocsik, I've never seen those. That's a neat trick! I've got a 90° valve stem on my rear tire but it faces the wrong way!
I didn't notice it until much later after I had the tire installed. I can still access it from the "other" side though.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Shop around. Some gas stations have the 90 degree chuck.

The chuck for a big truck works. Get the stem at the very back of the wheel.
Truckstop?

Thanks, everyone!
For now I've got a 90* chuck - though when I went back to the gas station with it, it didn't play too nice with the old, worn-out nozzle on the air machine (it's the one place in town that has free air, so I guess the machine gets a lot of use...and I don't think its pressure read out is correct). For topping off the air pressure, I've now found that a manual floor pump (with the 90* adapter) works just fine. Wouldn't want to fully-inflate a tire from zero that way, but if I need to just add a few PSI it's easier than a trip to the gas station!
Something else I noticed while fiddling around with the wheels - I've got a Marathon 880 tire on the back, which says "Tubeless" on it. Is this tire actually running tubeless, or is there a tube inside there? As far as tubes/tires go, my only experience is with pedal bikes, so I don't really know...

No, it is not tubeless on the Savage - needs a tube so the air doesn't leak out the 36 holes where the spokes are located.
The tubeless tire can be used tubeless on a rim that is designed to run tubeless.
