Personally, I don't like the tire shine look, but I like the clean tire look. For years, since high school, I have used plain Gunk mixed half and half with kerosene. Brush on with a cheap paint brush (on engine when warm, not hot!) and wait for a while, then spray off. Repeat if lots of build up. Love the look and the smell.
