battery problem?
01/29/17 at 15:32:24

yesterday the weather here was perfect in huntington beach, went for a ride on pch for about 80 miles bike rode great. Today I wanted to ride it to church because my wife was already there and the weather is epic for it  went to start bike and seemed like I had a dead batter, not enough juice for a single turn over (Horn weak and head light weak) , i left the key in it because its in my garage and thought i may have left the key in the Park and so thought thats why it could possibly be dead (Battery is about 6 months old)

I then went what the hell ill push start down my driveway.  i popped the clutch and i was on my way...at first it seem to ride ok but about 1/2 mile away from my house it just died on me.

I pushed it back home and decided to deal with it later.  Well later arrived and i grabbed my volt tester to see what the battery was saying it read about 11.1 V. I have a 2 amp charger and decided to throw it on

i got the battery charged to 12.65 and decided to put it in the bike and go for a ride it started right up and i went for about 300 feet and died on me. (I had plenty of gas) Started it up and it ran back to my garage. I had volt tester and checked the volts when it was idling it read about 10.5v  i hit the the throttle lightly and it dropped to 3.5-6.5v . shut it down then tested the battery again and got 11.7 and constantly slowly dropping from there.

Do i have a bad battery?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You're not gonna' like this...
I think you have a dead stator... Huh

Voltage running should be higher than battery voltage.

You could charge the battery, get the bike running and check the stator output, or check the stator resistance (non running ) .If all seems well you could have a bad regulator/rectifier .I'd start by checking all connectors........The fact that you shut the bike off and the battery voltage still dropped bothers me .I'd disconnect the battery ground ,then check the battery voltage to see if it still drops , that would indicate a bad battery.

I pulled the battery out and put it on my work bench and it just was dropping .01 volt at a time continuously

traced all wires and noticed a clip had come loose for one of the connections off the fender  Roll Eyes anyways threw the battery on and started right up sounded great. threw the volt tester on and revved it a bit and saw the volts climb feeling thankful today

If you have the battery out it's a good time to check the water.

You can check the water if it is a wet cell battery....but not if you have an AGM or gell battery.

If there is no vent tube on the battery.....it is not one you can check or add water.
