A crescent will be fine, just square it up and tighten it , and put the corner of the nut that will get the pressure down on the bottom of the adjustable jaw. That takes most of the slack that allows the jaw to tilt in the handle out. Used carefully they are as good as an open end wrench. But, I shy away from them if I have the right tool, and the nut is Tight. The small end,, I'm not so comfortable with, but the nut fills the wrench.I wound up using a crescent when I did the rear tire.
