Posts: 42	Help me find some tires 12/31/16 at 22:12:51 Looking for a set of tires for my 87 LS650 Rear 140 80 15r 67h Front 110 90 19 62h Of all the searching ive done, ive found a handful in the correct size. The only problem is they're all tubeless. I need tube type for both tires. If anyone has any tires or at least any info on where to find them, let me know. Thanks

Kenny G, i have zero experience in mounting tires. From what i read, installing tubes on a wheel with spokes is supposed to be extra difficult?? Again any additional info on mounting process is much appreciated.

Rear: Had a 140 90 15, was too wide. Rubbed slightly when riding with a passenger. Plus getting to bolts for the pilion handles is way easier with the 140 80 15.

Front: Modded the front fender so 110 90 19 fits just fine.

When running the stock 140/80-15.....the only tire option is the original equipment IRC tire - which is not stellar.

The 130/90-15 size is available in a lot of brands, and it is almost identical in size to the 140/80-15 (the 140/90-15 tire is much larger and will fit with potential bolt changes to the rear fender or saddlebag supports).

As stated....tubeless tires can be used on spoked rims - the tube keeps the air from going out the holes where the spoke nipples are located!

Most motorcycle tires nowadays are tubeless and the mfg. expects you to use a tube if tires are installed on tube-type rims. This is common practice now.

PS I loved Michelin Pilot Activs when I purchased a set for my BMW a few years back and I got excellent wear, a good gripping. On roads with rain grooves, I had zero "squirrelliness" (if there is such a word) on the grooves, that with other tires would give me fits at 60 MPH. Don't know if Michelin has them in your desired size or not. I purchased mine from Revzilla.

No.....Michelin does not make the Pilot Activs in any 15" sizes for the rear of the Savage.

This link lists every tire I could find that is made in matched sets to fit the Suzuki Savage. (I did not include tire brands/models if you could not buy a matching front/rear tire).

Is the "fun" "challenge" or hassle of mounting you own tyres really worth it?

Here in the states, you're gonna pay $30 to $50 every tire you mount. And the prices continue to go up.

I bought the hardware to make it easy, a No-Mar mounting bar and a HF m/c adapter for the HF tire tool which I got from my brother. And a couple of long spoons and it's not hard to do.

I've also acquired bits and pieces to mount it on the back of the truck if needed.

But with the mileage I do, I'm changing tires every year. So it makes a lot of sense for me.

The 1st time with just a couple of spoons just about did me in and I pinched the tube.

If you don't have the tools... go to the dealer.
If you don't change every couple of years, you might be better off at the dealer.

I know the reply is a bit late but I use the Pirelli Night Dragon for the front and Pirelli MT66 for the rear. I go on regular club rides as well as the daily commute and have found that the tyres have plenty of grip, even in the wet.

The only issuer I have is that my fat sausage fingers struggle to fit between the tyre and the left hand side of the mudguard (fender for you yanks Wink

)
