Rotella equivalent

I believe that Rotella outside the USofA is marketed as Rimula, it's not easy to get information on it here and I was wondering is someone could have a look at this Australian product and tell me if it looks like the same thing as the Rotella T6,

http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Shell-Rimula-R4X-15W-40-10-Litre/330077

It's $72 for 10L as opposed the the current synthetic I'm using which is $65 for 4L.

I don't see a JASO MA certification on it.

Looks like the same thing as Rotella-T conventional which is JASO MA rated here in Canada.

I would call Shell AU and ask them if conventional Rimula is JASO MA rated

It looks like they don't recommend it for wet clutches. I'm suspicious about this because I've seen anecdotal evidence that it's ok but I'm not going to argue with the tech department. I can get Rotella T6 in 2.5 gallons from Amazon but they charge $85 deliver Sad

However I have found that it is available on Australian feeBay for $58 delivered so it's pretty well the same price as the expensive motorcycle oils once you take it up to 4L from one US gallon.

So I guess it's not really worth the bother especially as it's 5W40 which maybe won't be so good in a stinking hot climate, even if it does have a tiny bit extra zddp. say 1250 instead of 1000.

Have a look at Penrite hpr diesel 15w50. Is recommended for wet clutches and can be had on special from supercheap or repco for about $60 / 10 litre on special.

Funny you should say that because I just had a conversation with the Penrite tech dept and I have decided to settle on the Penrite 10W50 semi synthetic, at about $48 from supercrapauto. I think the 15W50 is a full mineral oil. The 10W40 is a full synthetic at $55 ($70 at Autobarn!)

This is an extract of what the patient and helpful Alan Jeffery, from Penrite tech had to say...

Both of these bikes [the gs500 and S40 I inquired about] really want oil at 10W-** so I'll stick with that. In Brisbane's heat there's an advantage in getting that right hand number up, not the left (Winter) one.
How about the semisynthetic SAE 10W-50? MC410W-50 semi synthetic comes in at 1310 ppm zinc, so there’s a small bonus J.

EDIT: I just noticed you are talking about 10L, I might have to revisit that option.

@Gizzo, I've just come across the Penrite HPR Gas 10 which is a JASO MA semi synthetic with 1260 Zn that looks pretty good, only $45 at Supercrap for 5L

EDIT: I have been informed that it is possible that this becomes friction modified at some time in the future and that would prolly go for the 15W50 HPR I'd guess.  So I'll stick with the MC4 10W50 semi with 1310 Zn so I don't have to worry about watching label.

Newer formulations of Rotella T6 however are API SM rated as safe for pre-2011 gasoline vehicles.

There is a new version of T6 for multi vehicles that's not rated JASO MA/MA2

Does the T4 mean full fossil based, T5 mean Semi-synthetic and T6 mean full synthetic?

As far as I know, all rotella is a liquefied natural gas oil.
And those titles you've listed don't really mean anything except for the level of refinement.

The reason I asked this is because I like the idea of synthetic being superior lubrication, but for a motorcycle, I don't like the idea of full synthetic, so I have stuck with a semi-synthetic.  I will switch to Shell Rotella T5 if, and only if, it can be shown to also meet the ZDDP requirements of the older bikes AND will also work with wet clutches.
