I know these darned screws are 3mm thread, but how long are they? And what is the thread pitch?

Red,

I cannot remember the length or the thread pitch.

I took the factory screws to Ace Hardware and matched them with plated American made metric Phillips head screws.

Red,

If you live out in the middle of no where ACE IS THE PLACE.

My trip to Ace is about 22 minutes and they have darned near everything. Today I wanted to remove the spark plug from my engine and I don't have an 18mm plug wrench or an 18mm deep socket. Off to Ace I went and picked a set of 4 spark plug wrenches for $21.00. What a live saver Ace can be.

Red,

The screws that you are referring to are 3mm x 6mm length. I don't know what the pitch is.

I looked at Google and they claim 3mm screws have a thread pitch of 0.5. I don't know if there are other variants.

Even mid sized cities have industrial supply houses.
I got a 3/8" Stainless steel, three foot all thread for under five bucks.. but, the guy gives me contractors prices.
The hardware stores buy from the supply houses and mark it up something fierce..

Justin,

I use Denton Bolt Company (Industrial Supply) when ever I can, but they are only open 8:00 to 5:00 on weekdays.

I use Ace Hardware because they are open 7 days a week and they are not as far from my home when I need something in a hurry. Ace is a bit pricey on most things.

I just went to ace yesterday, got lost and almost didn't make it to work in time, I managed to find m3 Allen head screws, I'm no fan of the factory JIS screws. And I can see why everyone talks so highly of ace, they got lots of stuff

They sure do.  There is an Ace in Morris, OK, a town about the size of a couple of postage stamps and the store is enormous.  It is by far the largest hardware store until you get to Tulsa, 50 miles away...or Shawnee 50 miles away...or McAlester 45 miles away.
It has a lot of stuff and a little bit everything as well.
Hardware, electrical, plumbing, wood, steel, hay, feed, appliances, horse gear, boots, farm tools, etc etc etc.
It's a fun place, I buy the cat food in a XL size for our personal little critter,
besides other stuff.
It is the only place to get metric hardware in steel or stainless.

If you ever have time to wait, there is a place in Connecticut called the nutty company, they also have a wide variety, you can order in bulk, plus it's pretty cheap.

Any of you in North-Central Ohio, check out the hardware in Hartville, OH.  The BEST in the US and is still a family owned store.  Bigger and better supplied than any big-box store.

I have actually called them, described the hardware I needed, and they sent it to me!  I used to live up there, but now in South Caroling.

Check it out at hartvillehardware.com (I think!)
