A Rebel 500 could be a keeper...one that doesn't have the power and highway speed restrictions the little 250 Rebel has.

Kawasaki has the Vulcan S, and now Honda has the 500 Rebel.

How will Suzuki and Yamaha respond?

Reminds me of the old Vulcan 500 LTD.  Hopefully Honda will keep the pricing closer to the CB500, undercutting the Vulcan S by a wide margin.

I think I could get interested in that 500.  After a recent experience locking up both wheels (not on a Savage) I would want the optional ABS brakes.  The 500 would likely do a good job of meeting that criteria list that Oldfeller posted a week or two ago.  Not too heavy, low seat, probably decent power and torque but it does have a chain drive.

I like the Idea of the 500 but it's really more a bobber than anything else, I think these companies need to thing of a bike design that works for many uses. Why not build the bike with a rack on the back to except luggage for solo trips and a passenger seat that could mount to it to take your honey for a ride .I'm waiting for a bike with a broader appeal.

Honda probably has all those as add on accessories.  How much extra could they ding you for? Shocked  They also build a sportbike, a naked, and an adventure bike around that same powertrain.

I think their design departments are all trying to appeal to the millenials or hipsters or whatever.  It is a demographic that is not buying many bikes and they figure us old timers won't be buying bikes much longer.

I agree with batman, I think they should get back to the concept of all purpose bikes.  They say that most bikes are bought by people over 50 so they might as well build to that.

The Rebel has an add-on passenger seat that looks VERY comfortable.

60 lbs lighter than a Vulcan 500, 70 lbs lighter than a Vulcan S.  408 lbs is right in my ballpark, but I already have 2 S40's and a beat-up shadow 600.
Curious to know the HP. Cool
ps: no other OEM has copied the Kawi adjustable seat/pegs. wondering...

Its not about HP .   ,   think simple-sty , good millage , and a REAL 500 version of a Rebel

I got excited at the title ... Thanks for the Rush  Zip-Man !  Smiley

they also cut the wheel size to 16" from 17" .???
Same size wheels at both ends gives it a different look than most cruisers. Starting to like it. Cool

The days of air cooled street bikes are gone.  In order to get the performance that we have come to expect, and meet the more stringent pollution standards - the engine has to be water controlled to get rid of of the heat.  (This happened to cars many years ago and is why both VW and Porsche had to go to water cooling).

I like the look of it; sure wish Suzuki would update the LS650 to something similar or to a standard like it was years back.

I agree, Lancer. The new styling looks pretty good. I didn't care too much for the old Rebel style.
