I don't want to start a boot war, but I have been wearing laced paratrooper boots for over 50 years and possibly 60 years without a mishap. I was taught to tie shoes by the time I was 3 years old.

Jeans that are too long are the only thing I have ever got tangled up in the pegs. I do wear  Velcro bicycle clips when the jeans are a little on the long side..

Twice I had emergency room Drs. tell me the only reason my ankle or leg wasn't broken was because of proper laced boots. One trip to the emergency room was after hitting a Beagle. I didn't drop the Norton, that is attributable to the excellent handling of British motor bikes.
