Demoed an Indian Scout 60
11/13/16 at 17:48:12

I demoed an Indian Scout 60 yesterday. The bike is beautiful. The engine is superb. The ergonomics suck. At my height of 5"7" my feet were too far forward, cannot stand at all if going over a bad bump. I had to reach a good 4 inches or so beyond my comfort zone to grasp the handlebars so basically you are riding with your feet and hands stretched out way in front of you. I did not like at all. I mentioned this to the ride leader and he agreed saying it is a really uncomfortable bike. But oh the engine ... I fell in love. I also found that I like having a digital gear indicator. Cool

Doesn't look too bad for this rider. He's probably not 5'7" though.

There are a "LOT" of other bikes out there !  Wink

That " V " twin pull is nice .  Smiley  315 Deg. or  405 Deg. between power strokes ?  Huh    (45 Deg. V )

You ever rode a parallel twin ? They ruled the market for a long time , there is a lot to like about them too .  Shocked  360 Deg. between power strokes.

Either that rider is 7' tall, or the bike has 16" wheels...

The bike does look comfortable for the guy in the picture. I'm guessing he is over 6 feet tall. The bike itself is really low and good looking but yes I was definitely reaching with both my feet and my hands. I did not ride the Indian Scout with the bigger engine as I was just not comfortable on the bike. I did discuss it with the ride leader and he said the 1100cc engine does have a little extra oomph. I would be more than happy with the oomph of the 999cc on the Scout 60. You think it would fit on one of our bikes? Grin Grin Grin

I do not believe I have ever ridden a parallel twin. If I get a chance I think I would like to demo the new Honda cb500.

As Thumperclone mentioned, the new fad for parallel twins is the 270 degree crank. Advantages include smoother power delivery due to the reduced time between power pulses and significantly reduced secondary vibration. This crank configuration was well known in the 50's and 60's but had limited production due to the ignition timing complications. Modern electronics have eliminated that barrier.

I rode the Scout 60 and the Scout at an Indian demo days a couple of months ago. The power on both was very nice but the ergos sucked. Like springman said, way too long of a reach to get to the bars. I did a Victory Octane a few weeks later, same complaints.

If I was going to get a naked Polaris product, I'd get a Gunner.

Parallel twins seem to be everywhere right now.

Honda CB500R, CB500F, CB500X, CTX700, NC700X, NM4, Rebel

Kawasaki Ninja 650, Ninja 300, Z650, Versys (multiple)

Yamaha FZ07, Super Tenere

The list keeps going but I'm too lazy to look up any more.

I'm pretty darn happy with the parallel twin Ninja 650 that I picked up. Night and day difference between that and the Suzuki GS500 that I started riding on.
