2011 S40 just purchased but not even ridden yet!
10/30/16 at 05:35:45

In looking at the bike, and also here, I am wondering if there is an external screw which would allow the low speed fuel/air mixture to be adjusted?

If so, does screwing in the screw decrease air to mixture or does screwing it in decrease fuel to mixture?  In other words, does the screw adjust the air or does it adjust the fuel?

Thanks!

Out (CCW) for more fuel. It's under the brass plug, right side. Do a search for a pics.

You might get a real loud pop when you shut it down. Mine sounded like a gun going off. That won't happen if you pull the choke a second or two before you turn the key off. Mine stopped that when I switched the stock muffler to the H-D sporty.

I also do get a "pop" when shutting it off.  It isn't loud though.  I also get a smattering of small little "pops" when I shut down the throttle.  I am assuming the low end needs to be a bit richer.  When I pull out the choke a single notch, the popping stops.

This is why I want to find out if there is an air/fuel low end adjustment.  There usually is on these types of carbs.  I just am not familiar with this one.

PB you might be able to stop the pop at shutdown by tuning the idle fuel screw so it won't happen as often, the smaller pops when you snap the throttle closed is pretty normal for even a well tuned single, but can be reduced by closeing the throttle slower or not completely until the engine speed drops.

Is that brass plug difficult to remove?  And, when out, can it be left out altogether?  The adjustment screw won't unscrew itself will it?  Is it spring loaded like most other idle fuel mixture screws on other bikes?

yes leave it out.
there's a oring and spring to hold it, but don't back it out more than 3 turns or it will.
