On the road...help! Solved...sort of
10/18/16 at 15:39:13

So after getting my little gal up and running, I decided to got the road to Babes Ride Out in California from Colorado. Well we left today and I didn't even make even make it out of the state. I was going about 75ish in a strong head wind when suddenly she just quit like she was out of gas...but I wasn't out of gas. Then while sitting on the side of the highway she won't spark or even try to start but she has gas and all of the lights are working. Luckily I was ina group and we had a chase truck with a trailer who loaded me up and is taking me out to Albuquerque where I am going to try and work on it.

So long story short I think I need to replace the battery. Where can I get a battery in a pinch and what kind should I get?

Sounds like OI has her taken care of.  Sounds suspiciously like a bad spark plug...maybe?  If it spins over with a strong battery and just has no spark, I'd try a new plug.  Spark plugs, even new ones, fail. Been there and done that and it will drive you insane....all for a $3 part.

We got her up and running...And headed west.  Cool

Chopper ????   After dropping it and pranging my shoulder, I'll be lucky if my wife doesn't have training wheels installed on it when my back is turned.

Yup he got me fixed up! Hopefully she's holds out! We replaced the spark plug, topped off the oil, and removed the ciggarette lighter/phone charger  I installed.

OI is a life saver and saved me lots of time scratching my head and kicking the tires  Grin

If you are ever in Belen, NM and need with help your Savage head on over to Rider Cycles!!! One of the best experiences I've had on the road! Thanks again guys you are the best! This forum has helped me out so much!

Well...bad news. Got to Kingman AZ on the trailer to meet up with the other riders, took it off the trailer and it won't start. It's sparking and trying but nothing. So we pulled the carb and it's flooded and dirty. Cleaning it now, problem is even if I get to my destination, I honestly don't think it can make the trip back home. :'(

Do you have the Raptor petcock? If not, try running it on Prime once the carb is back on...
Just a thought

Between here (where it was running beautifully) and Kingman the carb bowl got full of crud. After she cleaned the carb, it's "running like a champ".
Keep us informed Rayven.

From where does the crud originate?  Is it from the tank? How is it getting past the filter screen on the petcock?

Is it from the fuel line disintegrating from the alcohol in the gas? How'd the particles get past the screen above the float valve?

Both of these screens are designed to stop particles large enough to cause carb problems.  Are they missing?

I'm glad to hear she's riding again.  But, we gotta locate the source of her problem instead of just continuing to fix the symptom. There has to be a source for this crud that's getting in there.
