A buddy of mine parks his bikes ($225 per bike per month, times about 5 bikes) at the garage I work out of in NYC. He does high end apartment and office renovations and mods. Asked him if he had any interesting projects lately. Mentions doing a musician's apartment who's albums I've owned for years. Said he just did a high end kitchen reno for someone's Manhattan apt. So, I asks, how High is High end? Take a wild guess, he says. So, keeping in mind that the average 1 Bedroom apt sold for $1 million dollars in NYC last year, I take a wild guess of $250,000. He smiles. Double that, he says. And add $80K. ???? $580,000 for a kitchen renovation in an apartment!?!?!? Yup. Me being the peasant that I am, I can't even begin to think of what is involved, so I ask. Well, $40K for the stove, and then the other appliances, brings the appliance total to $100K. Then the stonework, Then the custom knobs and fixtures. And And And... As a reference point, he has a crew of 24 guys who he keeps very busy with this kind of work. Reminds me that in this town, I'm white trash.
