Need some wisdom counterbalance gear tolerance

Hello
I haven't been active here just getting my bike together finally. Crank roller bearing and counter balance bearings were shot. Bike has about 19k miles if I remember right..
Put the cases back together tonight and I might be highly paranoid but the gears on the counterbalance/crank make a slap at top dead center and have a
hair
of freeplay.. They are kind of dry so that might be part of it..
Wondering if there is a way for me to measure the tolerance on them before I go any further?...
Don't know if anyone have warn them out of spec before or if that's even possible they seem super strong?
Would suck moose wiener if they need to be replaced I gotta wrestle that crank nut off and all that fun stuff again. :'(
