do they only make high end products that sell to rich people?

you might only have rich customers, that does happen, but a lot of major market driving corporations depend on selling to middle class and poor people.  so yeah, the people that hire you might be rich, but they depend on us poor folk to buy their products.

there are always exceptions though

OK,  Then  TAX  the RICH   !!!!

I make a  widget, sell it for .80 to a mart-mart.
The mart mart, sells it to you for 1.20.

(Now   BILLERY  Declares both, ‘rich’, and charge each .05 cents more, in TAX.)

Now the Maker sells that item for 85 cents, and the mart mart sells it to you for 1.30

Tell me,  WHO,  Pays the Tax  ???????????

I think you missed my point. Rich people hire people. Hilary' made a  ridiculous statement that trickle down doesn't work. Of course it does and all of us are examples of that. In fact, she is too because if it weren't for people richer than her, who else is going to pay her $250,000 to talk for 20 minutes?

Stop bashing rich people and start bashing capable people who live of the government. While you're at it, stop thinking the rich don't pay their fair share, that's another ridiculous statement.

If you give a rich guy, or a business, an extra million dollars,... they don't automatically say,.. "I'm gonna' hire 20 more people!"...
They say, "Bingo!... Score!"...
If you give them a million dollars in extra sales,.. they say..."We need more production,.. let's hire more staff"...

Trickle down had it backwards... it's trickle up...
More sales equals more demand,.. equals more need for more workers, to make more stuff...

The rich don't hire for fun,.. they hire for profit...

you're making the assumption that proceeds from taxing the rich will have an impact. nonsense because if it did, we wouldn't be in the spot we're in right now. uncle sam will waste an enormous percentage of whatever additional that take.

taking money out of a rich guy's pocket is just as likely to cause him to adjust in ways other than increasing production such as moving to mexico like Ford and Carrier just did or cutting back on staff or hiring clever lawyers to get out of taxes like trump did, like mark cuban did etc...like Bill and hilary will. you think Hilary's really going to pay 35% of her income to uncle sam?! really?

stop thinking the rich dont pay their share, they pay well beyond their share. start hinking about spending.

and yes, trickle down works. always have. again, tell me the poor guys you've worked for in the past.

Why not just simplify the whole matter?
Just like our two party system locks out any real change, so does the tax system. Both need to go, in total.

I back a consumption tax.
Straight across the board, service and product
You wanna get a lewinsky, you get taxed on the condom and the lips  Grin
All governing entities can attach local taxes upon the state and federal tax. By doing such, it will make the local government more efficient if they expect people to live there.
Instead of exempting poor folk, a system of support would be set up under a different department that can more readily check in need.

This tax would be collected by all within its border, here legally or illegally.
By doing this then illegals are entitled to "current" benefits.

No deductions of any kind, period !!!!

It's not perfect, but it's a start.....

Really, America grew, people prospered,no income tax.
Consumption tax? Yeah, on luxury cars, boats, houses over X square feet, but if someone is just getting by, and they pay consumption tax, they have no savings plan, and pay tax on every dollar they earn, because they Spend every dollar they earn, just to survive.
But the guy making five million a year? No, he can bank four,
A consumption tax is a point blank shotgun blast to the poor.
Unless you're willing to modify the way it works.
So,
If you're for a consumption tax, explain away.

+1...

I would prefer a graduated flat tax...
On income, capital gains, and interest...
First $25,000   0%
Next $25,000 10%
Next $50,000 20%
Next $150,000 30%
over $250,000 40%...

Numbers to be adjusted to cover cost and payment of deficit...until we're out of debt...with a goal of being debt free in 25 years...

Sales tax, food not included, all vices taxed to support the locality.
Fed income graduated flat tax.
No tax on gifts/inheritance.

balanced budget mandate
all wages of congress (ie health care, retirement, wages) voted on by the people, no self promotion.

I think you guys missed the part about having the poor helped via a different avenue.
Also, part of what you consume is CONSUMED, that is NOT 100 % tax.

You think poor should get free cigs and beer?

And you guys fail to see how a tax gathered like this will be collected from visitors, just like our current sales tax, but at a greater number.

Funny Jog, maybe we can just print more notes to cover everyone in retirement, eh?

A tiered flat tax is better than what we have now, but fails to gather the most resources available, and will still leave shelters and dishonesty in declaring income.

who is making that assumption???  I don't see that anywhere.

notice that Serow didn't say anything about taxing the rich more, but instead focused on HOW JOBS ARE ACTUALLY MADE vs your fantasy about how you think it works.

Well, when GM, United Continental, etc...  actually GET tax rebates instead of paying ANYTHING in taxes....  somebody isn't paying some kinda share....

27 giant profitable companies paid no taxes

"There are 27 companies in the Standard & Poor's 500, including telecom firm Level 3 Communications (LVLT), airline United Continental (UAL) and automaker General Motors (GM), that reported paying no income tax expense in 2015 despite reporting pre-tax profits, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Only profitable firms were included in the analysis since firms that lost money - like many energy companies - wouldn't be expected to pay taxes."

Big corporations are akin to working welfare.

The trade-off of giving the corporations tax breaks, etc, is that the government gets the money back in payroll/withholding, type taxes.
Like a used car, it gets taxed at the original sell, then also each time it sells, PLUS, the jobs it provides in repairing/maintence, and those folks then spend their earnings on services and goods, etc.....

One welfare recipient, who stays home, receiving support, only spends the money, and gets no self-worth from their lifestyle.

The other, creates a lot more opportunity, and yes, that includes the brass at the top too.

Which place, does out collected taxes pay for the best return on investment?

PS: yes, its an over-simplification, and does not take all things into account, however, the premise is still sound.
