I have some rotella T6 left over that I'm not using in my S40 any more as I have switched to rotella triple protection dino. My question is could I mix the T6 with other synthetic oil in a car such as valvoline 5w 30 or would that be unwise? Thanks!

rl

I put T-6 in everything I've got .  Wink    and usually add STP to it to boot !

I also change oil every 10,000 miles , the oil is still slick --- even after 10,000 miles  but I change it anyway.

If there any oil better , I've never found it .  Huh

Thanks, I was wondering if you mix it with other oils , like adding a quart , if it would be a problem,

Putting T6 into anything with an oxygen sensor isn't recommended as it contains too much ZDDP to keep modern O2 sensors happy.

Part of the SL, SM, SN SAE standard is that all oils must be able to be intermixed freely, so apart from a tiny bit of sensor damage from too much ZDDP you could put it in a car.

My lawnmower uses oil all the time, and so do my chainsaws as bar oil ......  a little bit of left over oil is never wasted.

When I changed back to dino Rotella I simply poured the last unused bit of T6 into the Rot dino Triple Protection 15w40 jug, figuring same company, same oil brand meant maximum internal compatibility, plus I knew it was going to go into a item that lacked O2 sensors.

Just out of curiosity, how often do you guys change your oil and filter on your bike? I've been using Rotella dino in summer and T6 in winter and changing every 2k miles approximately.

Well, I suppose I only ride my Cafe' bike about 2,000 miles a year - so my changes are more a 6 month interval than mileage.

I change the oil twice.....just before I put it away for the winter, and before I go on a Dragon ride in mid summer.  I only change the filter once a year.

I use Rotella 10w-40 in both my old GS850 as well as my new (to me) Savage. I usually change the oil every 5k miles and at the end of the season.

(Moderator note:  I believe this should be 15W-40).

Do you notice the oil use increases with the miles On the oil?

Mad Hammish.. hardly any at all.  Maybe a pint total between changes.  I never really measured it.   But I do notice that it is used more the more miles on the oil.

Thumper.. is a heavy drinker, and will be going to Dr Lancer soon for a valve job.

I've been changing it every 2K with a new filter every-other oil change.  Figure it's cheap and easy way to keep the bike in good shape.  Not sure how much I add between changes; I just check it every week or so and add some if it needs it.  Couple ounces usually does it.

I used to change every 2k years ago... oil is so much better now, I think that might be just a waste.
I'm 3 or 4k between changes on the Savage,.. 5k on the Sporty...
...(HD manual says every 5k)...

I think the oil should be changed when it gets dirty, which is pretty darn quick on this bike.  If I don't see any clarity in the oil I consider it dirty.
That usually occurs by 2000 miles.  I like to change the filter at the same time unless I get caught without one.
