Kris01, the cheap jump was from 7500 feet the 12000 footer wasn't that much dearer, so more bang for the buck. I think the tandem guy opened the chute at 7500. I think you can go to 13000 and a bit before you need oxygen.

When I got my jump wings the jump was from 400m altitude = 1300ft.
But the parachuted opened automatically... immediately !
From 12000 or 13000 ft... There's a road mountain pass in India that's 16000 ft,
so I guess you could happily jump from 12/13000 and sing your way down and open your chute around 2000-1500 in full safety...

I've jumped from a little over 14000 ft. In Colorado without needing extra oxygen. Ok, it was standing on a mountain top but it still counts!
