Testing my oil pressure.

About the oil pressure gauge... What's the best thing for me to get? I might eventually mount it. Huh Thinking of something $10-20. Is a 60 psi harley gauge the best for this application? Does it need to be fluid-filled? What hose would be good? How about hose for permanent mounting?

If I don't mount one, does it need to be a specific kind of pressure gauge?

I found an adapter I think. http://www.egauges.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=R7966&CartID=2

Dad has some old pressure gauges laying around somewhere. Whether they still even work, much less whether they're sensitive enough for that low pressure is another question. He has one he used on his ford ranger many years ago, assuming I can find it, and it works, and it works well enough for the application.

I could just run by the automotive place and get a cheap oil gauge for a car. Huh

Cheap, the right range, but kinda tiny, and doesn't look fluid filled.

I wouldn't bother. It'll probably leak and get killed by vibration. If you must know the pressure, try finding a good mechanic with a set of master gauges and check oil pressure with them. An on/off sender unit with an idiot light on the dash might work.

Versy kinda mentioned the idea of testing my oil pressure to make sure there's not something wrong. That's kinda what started it.

You should be able to get an idea by backing out the plug while it's running. Have a hand on the kill.

Just remove the valve adjustment cap and look inside.  If the parts are oily the engine is pumping oil.  If the parts are dry.....it is not pumping oil.
