2003 bike with 4 speed tranny?
09/01/16 at 16:00:11
Hello fellow Savage riders,
I just finished a Ryca CS-1 conversion on a 2003 (based on VIN) Savage and find that I only have 4 gears. I understood that year to have 5 speed tranny.
My questions to the collective knowledge of this forum are:
1. Is there registry of engine numbers to frame numbers (VIN) to tell if the engine was switched.
2. Is it possible to fit a 4 speed gearbox on a 2003 engine?
3. Is there any chance I actually have a 5 speed tranny, and there's an issue getting to 5th gear? The shifter gives no feel that there is another gear to shift up to.
Thanks,

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

WS, sometimes 5th can be a little harder to shift to try it at about 45mph. You might also look on the drive pulley cover it' stamped into it ,(but the po could have traded covers)

The bike is in the shop getting some paint touch up at the moment, so don't have the engine serial #. Will get that as soon as bike is back.

I did not. It was a quick transaction due to circumstances.
