Shovelhead Dynas were 1200cc and 1340cc (late late Shovelheads)(75 & 80 cu.in.)

Then came the 1340cc (80 cu.in.) Evo Dynas

Then came 88, 96, 103 cu.in.Dynas.

As far as I now, the stock Superglide has been using the same old 2-2 layout for the last 40+ years.

...says the man with one Dyna muffler on his Savage and two Dyna mufflers on his 80 cu.in. Evo Superglide !  Grin

The Dyna is WAAAY cheaper and has the same performance.

Depending on the number of disks, I expect that is true.
The Dyna is designed to handle one side of a WHAT? CC engine?

I thought it was 1200 cc.

Whats this you "HAVE" to have an adapter for a dyna??? I've put one on my wife's and mine and never used one.

The only thing is, since I ride mine all the time, my dyna has developed an empty sound, like I burnt all the insides out (which probably is true since mine runs hot).

The wife doesn't like the sound of mine anymore, she says its too loud and sounds weird.

Well, I can't get it to line up with the mount, it's aimed at the wheel. Even with the header loose and able to swivel around.
What did you do differently?

Justin,

Somewhere on here Dave has posted a picture and dimensions of what he used for an adapter between the header and the Dyna muffler. I had a local muffler shop bend a similar adapter for me that has worked well for over 6000 miles.

The Ryca adapter is a little pricey but it is well thought out and works the first try.

JOG, what are you doing wrong? Can you post a pic of how it mounts? My Dyna slipped right on and clears the wheel easily. I did fabricate an extension for the mount so I could bolt it to the stock muffler mount. I think the piece I used is called a "mending strip". I drilled 2 extra holes in it to match the muffler/stock mount. Now there's 2 bolts holding the mending strip to the mount and 2 bolts holding the Dyna to the mending strip.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Justin,

My adapter came out a little long and I had to drill a hole in approximately the center of the muffler hangar to line up with the front bolt holder on the muffler.

I had a stainless steel carriage bolt on hand that fit, and used that with a hardened lock nut. Harley makes a carriage bolt that is supposed to fit perfectly in the Dyna muffler and a matching nut. The only problem that I had was finding a drill bit the correct size so I could use the factory rubber bushing.

I was planning on making an adapter for the muffler hangar so that I could use the second bolt holder on the Dyna muffler, but when everything was bolted together and the header bolts carefully tightened, with a 1/4" drive socket and ratchet, the setup was so solid that I didn't bother making an adapter to use the second bolt.

I did use Permatex Muffler & Tail Pipe Sealant on the locally made adapter  and I now have over 5000 miles on the Dyna modification without any leaks. I cannot remember the last time that I heard an after fire or backfire.

I used brand new genuine Harley Muffler Clamps that I had on hand as they are so cheap at the Harley dealers I always keep a couple on hand. The Harley clamps are the best and you can really crank them down to get a tight leak free setup.

It is probably crucial to get the Dyna mount aligned perfectly with the Suzuki muffler hangar for a strong leak free installation

Honestly, I don't see how I could be doing it wrong.
I loosened the three bolts holding the mount, loosened the header, and got everything working together,,, aaaand, no joy.. And I'm not gonna mess with pictures,, takes too long to relearn how..

I then put the pipe in my bandsaw and cut the pipe at a 3 degree angle.

Dadgum Dave, if I Had a bandsaw I don't know if I could make a Three Degree cut.. well, maybe, if I was trying to cut it straight.

(Pay no attention to the reflection in the chrome of a man laying on the floor with his camera in hand.)

That's not easy. The Fun House mirror effect is cool.
