Cold air with stock battery box
08/20/16 at 20:04:07
I have built a chopper with a stock battery box and can't find any cold air kits that work. Any ideas?

If you are calling the "cone filter" a cold air kit.....it might be possible to use the filter that RYCA sells for the CS-1 kit. It is not a cone - but it is more of a short round filter.
I believe the stock air box likely provides more air flow and better performance than any small filter you could fit between the batter box and carb.

If you want colder air, don't rout the crankcase vent hose into the airbox.

I added a K&N filter in place of my stock air box just this week. I left the factory battery box in place. Now I gotta tell you, it is ridiculously tight. To the point that I will probably end up changing it. I can get you the part number if you'd like. The filter has a 2 1/4" inlet, is 3" around (I think), and is 4" long. Like I said, I may change it. Maybe a 180 degree elbow to a pod filter.

The frame is wide open behind the carb.

Dave, the engine is over bored 97 cc bore piston carb re-jetted head and cam done need more air in it. Don't think the stock box can get it done, at least not so far
.

You most likely aren't going to be able to squeeze a cone filter between the carb and stock battery box that will flow any better than the stock air box system....there just isn't room for a big enough cone filter. There also is a big benefit in having the nearly straight tube between the filter and carb, it helps to even out the pressure pulses and create a moving column of air.
Some folks have removed the air box and put a larger filter behind the battery box - the better systems move the battery out of the way.
I use a big foam air filter..........
Verslagen made a system that uses two filters....one on each side of the frame.

There has been a really good
Intake Theory
thread.
Surface area of the filter medium, volume of the airbox between filter and carb,
People stud y exhaust system design, and it has a piston Forcing the gasses out. The intake is what creates the exhaust.. without a proper airflow in the engine won't perform like it could.
A cone filter on a two inch long hose isn't your friend.
