Peacock or Jets and spacer mod
08/13/16 at 06:53:51

Hello, I am curious of your guys opinions on what one I should try first. Raptor peacock or carb spacer mod and jets.

The bike fires up and runs well at lower speeds, even opening throttle up while going slow. But when I am going faster than 60 and roll the throttle 3/4 or full it doesn't fire right get to the point where it won't let me accelerate. Thinking not getting the  right mixture of fuel and air?
Last night it was cooler out and also left the choke on the first click and it was better almost not doing it at all.
I'm planning on doing both just one first and wanted to know opinions on what one first. It's worth noting I removed the air box and used a straight pvc pipe with a screen for looks but has been that way for months. Can get a picture later.

When a bike doesn't run at high throttle settings, it usually indicates a problem with the main circuit, or a sticky slide.  Petcock problems can cause some full throttle issues - but they generally don't occur instantly and you normally can get at least a few second of full throttle running if the petcock is to blame.

You can test your stock vacuum petcock to confirm if the problem is being caused by the petcock.

Just be aware that genuine oem yamaha raptor petcocks can be rather expensive. On the other hand, cheap chinese knockoffs can be trouble. One known issue is lower fuel flow. Even they may work better than the stock vacuum petcock.  Do your homework before your purchase to get the best deal for the quality you want. You probably don't need a genuine raptor. Mine is probably not genuine. I did have a problem with my filter screen falling off into the gas tank, but that was a simple fix.

Kenny,

Yamaha Raptor Part #5LP-24500-01

Here is a link to the Genuine Yamaha Part.

Putting the petcock on first will make it a whole lot easier to take the tank off when you are ready to work on the carburetor.

Well the guy before me dropped it and the peg has been broken. Last night it decided the rubber decided to let go. Guess I need these welded back or get a set and mod it. Will be getting that this weekend. Then work on the fuel issue

Kenny ,you started with a bike that runs lean from the factory ,then you removed the stock air box? It's now running even leaner if you haven't rejeted !  A screen? That's not an air filter dust and dirt will ruin your motor.

I have been meaning to take apart an air filter and use that, but have not done so yet. I will test the vacuum. Not sure what one I will do first. Need pegs now. Also the car needs a tie rod and it feels almost 100 degrees here today. I'll get back in what I have done and what it does for the bike

I didn't know that Lancer sold the Raptor Petcock.

This is good to know.

Well I capped off both ends of the vacuum for the peacock. Ran it on prime and she still acted up. Guess in a little I will have to clean out the carbs and then in a week or two see if Lancer has any of those jet kits. Hoping it's just getting too much air not enough fuel.
It first started just acting up for a second then got progressively worse. I'll clean the carbs. And get some Jets. That would be the best idea correct?

If Lancer is backlogged, I have an extra jet kit sitting around that I never got around to using...PM me and I'd be happy to send it to you for just shipping costs.
