A little cooler this August
08/09/16 at 09:56:24

I thought it was a little cooler than last year. It is only 98F today, last year this same day it was 104F. I'm gonna have to get a sweater. Grin

David,

Buy two of those sweaters because you may be able to use them this winter.

It will be over 100 degrees in the MetroPlex again today.... Undecided

August and September are usually the hottest time here.
But we just had a couple of hot weeks and it's cooled off now.
Hoping it stays this way for a while, might get something done.

I have a friend that lives in Spring. She was just complaining about the heat index. I gave her a bit of a hard time by pointing out that it was in the 60s yesterday morning for my ride to work. I even had to water my grass a little a couple weeks ago because it was looking a little dry.

104!......won't that cook your Tater Tots! Embarrassed

The Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky area has been pretty darn hot, humid and wet for most of July.  Temperatures were often in the high 80's/low 90's, and it rained frequently....the hot weather slowed the grass down a bit - but supercharged the weeds!  If i was doing work outside - there was some major sweating/dripping going on.

So far....August is a bit cooler and drier.  For those who are coming up here in a couple weeks...the weather looks great!

It has just been ridiculously hot here for the last few weeks. My lawn is definitely paying the price for it. And yes, any time I consider doing some work on the bike or cars I back out of it unless it is absolutely necessary because within 2 to 3 minutes I am sweating profusely and dripping on whatever I am trying to work on. I removed the IAC from the car to clean it up and clean the throttle body (was not idleing properly), a 30 minute job approximately and when I finished I looked like someone had hosed me down. August is usually the hottest month in Houston. And not being in my thirties any more does not seem to help. Tongue

Oh, I forgot to include the heat index. With the heat index it has been around 110F lately. On the radio they casually mention to stay indoors as much as possible as this heat/humidity combination could be dangerous. Silly radio people. Shocked

I was in Denver a few years ago and people were literally dying from the heat. I think it was around 95 with humidity in the single digits. That's called spring around here. I was actually comfortable. It truly is the humidity, not the heat, that gets to you.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

When (if) I retire, I'm gonna get a minimalist RV, and spend all my time bouncing between Arizona and Colorado
Summer, up the mountain to the cool weather
Winter, down to the dessert for the warm weather
my cabin will just be sitting here

If I could figure out a way to get a really small AC unit....that would be "cool"! Cool

The small AC units that I see are really much larger than the little trailer would need, and they would cycle on/off a constantly.  If is was small enough to use my little Harbor Freight 1,00 watt generator that would be even better - but I suspect the little Chinese made generator wouldn't survive very long if you actually put it into regular use.

Build a gypsy cabin.  I wouldn't recommend a hay wagon frame like I usually see.  They have cool in the other sense of the word.

Look for a dorm frig that peltier cooling unit.
mount it to the ceiling under a solar cell to run it.
Solar cell(s) shade the roof, leave an air gap.
I think you can reverse the poles for heating in winter.
