Questions about shipping
08/09/16 at 09:31:52
I have been replacing some things on my bike and wouldn't mind selling what I don't need. Chain guard, air box, probably other things as well.
I haven't shipped anything ever and am wondering how much of a pain it is. Does the ups store have the things I'd need? Thanks in advance
Also any opinions on prices for those things are welcome. Don't want to rip someone or myself off

The mailing process can be time consuming by the time you pack the piece, make a mailing label, drive to the Post Office/UPS, and then stand in line.
The US Post have small boxes for free....some are flat rate and those work well for heavy stuff.
Some parts aren't worth too much, as they get taken off by folks who build Cafe' or Bobber bikes...chain guards, are plentiful - tool box covers are scarce and will sell easily.
Just look at eBay "sold" listings or the Marketplace on this forum to get an idea of pricing. Some eBay listings have prices that are really high....and the parts will never sell at those prices - so use the "sold" listings to see what people are willing to pay.

Kenny,
The UPS Store has everything that you need but they are awfully expensive for retail shipping.
If you know anyone with a commercial account it is very inexpensive.
Probably your best bet would be to use USPS flat rate boxes.
I shipped a tank VIA retail UPS to a guy on the forum and it cost me $59.00....OUCH....

Dang. Alright I will decide if it's worth it or not. Someone might want the airbox seeing how i have the covers for the sides to go with it. Thanks for the info. This has been a great place for ideas and ways to fix my bike. Thank you guys

I find the eBay listings pretty funny at times - some folks want more than the used market will pay for their stuff...these parts are way overpriced.

Why stop there and pass up a perfectly good worn out tire?

Why waste your time selling a cracked headlight? Chances are that anyone reading the ad already has one.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

I sell and ship things fairly regularly, both domestic and international.
I use USPS Priority for 98% of what I do.
Your best bet for reasonable cost shipping is the post office.
You can go there and pick up "Priority boxes" for free, any size, as much as you want. Shipping Priority is reasonably priced and will arrive at domestic addresses in 2-3 days. Like was mentioned above, there are Flat Rate boxes in assorted sizes and for prices to match. One of the large Flat Rate boxes is 12x12x5.5" and costs about $20 to mail, while the medium is slightly smaller and costs $14. Insurance beyond the standard $50 that comes with the shipping cost, is of course available for extra $$.
If you happen to ship international expect to pay a LOT MORE, with arrival in 7-10 business days. Your best bet is to check the shipping cost first before agreeing to a sale.

Stumbled across another one.
O-ring for oil filter. This will cost you $ 3.98 at your dealer - but on eBay you can buy it for just $ 7.99!

Or you can go to your local bearings wholesaler and get a bag full of the O-rings for a few bucks.
