Tire whine
08/06/16 at 10:27:32

Hi. Stock 2014 S40, 3250 miles. I've noticed lately some whine from the tires as I'm cornering at speed. I've double-checked the tire pressure and it's correct as per the manual (29 front, 33 rear I think). The only difference between now and three months ago is I'm a slightly better rider and have more confidence in the curves (still less than 12 months experience). I don't recall hearing this in the past.

Normal or something to be concerned about? Thanks.

I get the whine.  My rear tire has a flat spot and then it's feathers on the sides.  Time for new rubber anyway.

My tires whine when the bike is leaned over.....as the tire wears the tread blocks get a bit angular, and they start to sing.

Cool. Yep, that's exactly when mine sing. When the bike is leaned over. Thanks!

By the way, what kind of mileage will the stock tires give me? The bike is garage kept and gets ridden, on average, at least five days per week. A mix of stop/go and country riding. No highway. Thanks...

Like tires on the car. When I was young, they didn't last very long. Cars didn't last long, either.
I got five thousand miles, but they felt slimy, ready to wash out, so, corners weren't real fast.

Most front tire will last through 2 rear tires.

The stock IRC tire isn't great, and even the low cost Shinko tires are an upgrade.

My stock IRC tires only lasted 5000 miles. I've got Pirellis now that look like they will run MUCH longer than that.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!
