Raptor petcock

Also, I have changed the fuel tap to the Raptor type recommended. After running the bike for only a few minutes the filler cap starts to whine. Once opened the intake of air is very obvious. Could this be a problem with lean running and should the filler cap be vented?

If you open the cap,  let it fill the bowl, put cap on, start it,, if it's lean when you start it, it's Lean, no matter what.
IF the tank is not venting right, it's just gonna get leaner.

Keep the idle speed up over 1,000 RPM.
Don't let it idle on the sidestand.

Yes the cap should be vented if you don't have a carbon cannister on the bottom of the swingarm.

Definitely no carbon canister on my bike. Any easy fixes for venting the fuel cap?

Blow compressed air through the vents.

Justin,

If you go on the bottom side of the gas cap and blow air around the edges you will feel air moving through the tiny vents.

I've never torn the cap down to the vents, but you can.

I believe these are the vents...

Pay attention and make sure you get it all back together correctly.  It's not rocket surgery, but I did take mine apart a couple of years ago and seem to remember there was something I kept putting back wrong. Can't remember if it affected the tumbler and stopped the key from turning and disengaging the little "teets" so you can put the cap back in the tank hole and lock it...(I think that's was it)...but whatever it was, it was easy to figure out once you realized something was not cooperating.

I maybe insane but I believe the cap vents through the key hole, when the cap is on how could air enter the tank any other way?the gasket seals the opening around the tank top,the only way for air to pass is the key hole.true the passage isn't direct but it shouldn't be as the gas would splash out.the hole south of the key socket shown in the pic of verslagen"s post leads to the key lock, but it isn't in direct line with the two small holes in the plastic cap (at 3&9 o'clock)that you remove to get to the lock parts.So.....insert a tooth pick into your key way to open that little flap, then use compressed air.
