Speedometer Rattle Mod?
07/13/16 at 18:14:27

I have seen this talked about but don't know what it is? Both of my Savages have a squeak/rattle coming from under the tank somewhere. I wonder if it's the speedo springs? Seems to go away if I move the tank but comes back and is annoying as hell.

Mostly what is the speedo rattle mod? Huh

You can add some rubber hose over the mounting studs to hold the speedo tight in its mount. The rattle is just the speedo moving.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Others found a quicker, easier way. I used a piece of self adhesive black foam rubber from a window unit air conditioner, pulled the speedo, laid it on the tank, with the paper still on, got the speedo outline, cut , placed, Tedious,, and that fixed it. But, for all I know, just me messing with the springs is what did it.

From what I'm seeing here and I appreciate it is all I need to do is remove the speedo and put some rtv silicone over the mounting studs and springs so they have a rubber cushion. Once that stuff cures it's not goig to allow the speedo to vibrate/squeak.

I'll try that and post results.  Cool
