I used to think the Savages were g-d fugly. Found some good roads, nobody in front of, or behind me. Now that I've had some good rides on it, it's visual foibles don't bother me at all.

Boogers, It's still Freakin ugly, but you like most here have found its a cool little bike that can be molded into want you want. I built a RYCA out of mine and now I'm looking for another. Beware you might be hooked.

It still has way too much rake though. If I decide to keep it, it's going to get frame surgery to correct it.

Boogers,

I agree with you on the rake. I don't know how anyone could make a cafe racer with the rake the Savage/S40 frame has.

While you are doing surgery on the frame consider changing the backbone so you can fit a proper gas tank.

It doesn't hold enough fuel....and it has a speedometer and indicator lights where they can't be seen when you wear a full coverage helmet.

Getting a Dyna muff,... and getting rid of the chrome head covers and belt-guard takes away 90% of the ugly...

There's a lot worse...
That Yamaha Bolt is insanely ugly to me... (those pipes belong on a tractor)(air filter, too)... front brake looks like a doily...Undecided

Oh dear, ugly must be in the eye of the beholder, I've never had issues with the bikes appearance in stock form. If I ever get another bike, I will be seriously considering the standard Bolt in white.

Ok freakin ugly might be stepping on a few nerves, maybe I'm not so fond of a stocker with the buckhorn bars. Once some of the overweight stuff comes off it starts to appeal to me,I've been eye ballin these bikes for a long time as project bike. I'm a thumper guy from way back and now some years have gotten behind me the electric starter calls to me. Awhile back I saw a for sale ad that said it all-for sale sr500- bad hip causes me to sell my bad hip maker.

Booger,

The gas tank is not big enough.

Yeah I've noticed I have to fill it every time I go out. But then I'm guaranteed good for 2 hours anyway. I just ride it for fun and don't have to shave minutes commuting with it.

Beauty must really be in the eye of the beholder. I like the lines of my stock S40.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Agree, except for the dip seat. Repace it with a flat Bonny-style seat and it is beauty, eh?  Cool

My sentiments, exactly. Except for the seat, I think there's quite a classic cruiser look to my Baby Boulevard.
