Guy,

Sometimes you can pop a small dent out of a gas tank by shrinking the metal with dry ice.

Yes, I was reading that fact in the "Tips and Tricks" section here last week. I think there's a Kroger nearby that sells dry ice for a pretty cheap price. I'll try it when I have the time to drain the tank some weekend. Thanks, bud.

Yep. It's a never ending battle.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Ceramic coating is $50, blue stays away. Black or Silver! Cool

That might be the case that it simply begins to appear again but since I've just bought this bike a couple of weeks ago, I'm not sure what the previous owner might have done to cause it. If they just revved it a lot at lights and let it idle for 10-20 minutes at a time, it won't happen to me like it did with them.

And zipidachimp, a ceramic coating sounds pretty cool. I think I'd like the black coating on it. I wonder where I could get that done.   Huh

Ceramic exhaust coating is done by some hot rod shops. Ask around your hotrodder community. The colour not available is 'gloss black'. I've had mine for a year with no change in appearance. The silver is like a 'semi-gloss' chrome.  Cool

Cleaned my pipe today for the first time. I am at 6500+ miles and this is all original. Not too bad, but likely due to lean jetting and mixture until I learned how to work on the bike and such.  Blue Job did pretty good, but I will note that I didn't scrub the living snot out of it either. The bronzing didn't really bother me, so I figured if I could knock a little off, why not.

If you can control the desire to hear it rumbling at a light it'll tend to stay clean better. Mine was showroom sparkly bright until I sat and racked it off listening to valves at 5,000 miles.

This chart may not completely apply to the header color but it's probably close enough to understand what's really going on. The hotter the header gets, the darker the color.
