New Raptor 660 leaks badly
06/13/16 at 10:38:00

My newly installed Raptor 660 leaks badly! The rubber gasket appears to be OK but I can't tighten the mounting bolts enough to get it to quit leaking. Am I just holding my tongue wrong during the installation or is there a gasket or something I can use to stop the leak? Thanks!  :'(

You need to use sealing washers under the mounting screws.

Are those washers available at auto parts stores or just cycle shops? Terry

The part is most likely specific to the bikes that use the same type of petcock and tank connections.  On some tanks the threads are sealed in the tank casting (plastic tanks like the Raptor quad the petcock came from and they don't leak).

Go to your Suzuki dealer and get the proper washers.....or find a helpful Kawasaki/Yamaha/Honda dealer will take the time to help you find a sealing washer that works.  You have to be a bit careful not to just use any sealing type washer from a hardware store, as not all rubber is resistant to fuel or ethanol.

(What happened to the washers that held on your stock vacuum petcock?)

One of the original washers was missing and the other was squashed so flat that I just thought it was dirty and did not realize that it was supposed to have a rubber sealer. Too bad its Monday and all the cycle shops are closed. Was looking forward to getting it running today! Bummer!  Sad

Some home made cork ones will get you on the road quickly. I used the sprue (or whatever the waste part of a gasket is called) of a small block rocker cover gasket 3 years ago. No leak.

Yeah, what's up with that?!?! The bike shop around here is closer to me at work on Monday than at home on Saturday. I guess they think being open Saturday is more convenient for most people.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!
