Finally, winter work completed, just a few rough edges left.
This bike accelerates like crazy, carb work paid off. Faster than my Vulcan 500 twin.
Hope these photos load!

Wow. That's different! The raised rear end really changes the look. Bet that gets a bit of attention around town. How's the wheelies? Cool

As you can see, I'm not a designer, but it's the best I could do at this time.
A few observations: in this configuration, the acceleration in 3rd and 4th is scary. I'm 72 and this bike is leading me to 'hooligan behaviour' Ha!
1. The side covers need a redesign, but I'm sorta stumped. (1/16" alum checkerplate)
2. rotated the shift lever lower so I don't have to raise my foot
3. The tank speedo is totally useless, can't see it from the seat.
4. need help wiring the tach
5. carb mods eliminated the backfires
6. the taillight must be from a trailer, I can have a running light or brake light, but not both.
7. my friendly landlord just OK'd me doing some welding. Helloo harbor freight!!!!  A new skill to learn via u-tube
8. when I sell my Vulcan, gonna buy another S40 and do another improved re-design.
Singles Rule!!!!! Cool

nice lookin ' bike  !   If your taillight is  a double filament and two wires are  coming out you need to run a separate ground from the light houseing back to the frame.

I've watched quite a few welding tutorials. I think I learned a little bit, but mostly I just got jealous of real welders.
Good luck picking up on that. Buy your rods and grinder disks Not from harbor freight.

Hooking up 220 isn't that hard. Scary as heck the first few times.

220v welders are too expensive.  110v flux core is all I will need, on a 20 amp breaker.
The tail light has 3 wires, black, red, white. brown wires from the bike are not connected. The light is a sealed plastic unit 4" dia. Guess I goofed. Lips Sealed

Hello Zipi. I just finished posting that I have not done any carb mods cause my bike runs fine and now I read your post that you are running faster than the Vulcan 500. What did you do??? Maybe it is time for me to start making some carb mods? Smiley

spring:
standard 'suzukisavage.com' mods:
whitespacer mod, 152.5 main jet, 55 pilot, K&N filter, no airbox, crankcase vent out the back of the bike.
midrange acceleration is terrific, and backfires have all but disappeared. Cheers Cool

Thanks Zipi. I guess if it makes that much of a difference I better read up on it again and plan on doing it soon. I guess I always figured the difference would not be that noticeable, and the afterfire really does not bother me.

Spring,

If you can tell Lancer what your elevation is and any modifications to your bike he will give you a starting point that is really close.

My elevation is about 650' above sea level. I have a Dyna muffler and stock air box.

Lancer advised 52.5 pilot jet, 152.5 main jet and 3 washers. My S40 is running very well with his recommendation.
