Exhaust smoke video

The bike has 27k on it. Might have been run low on oil.
What do you make of this?

Looks suspicious to me, but I'm not one to make that kind of judgment. Wait for one of the pros to chime in. It doesn't look really bad, though.

I'd say it needs a ring job.

Can't really tell from the video but that smoke looks blue. You're definitely burning oil. It could be your rings or valve guides. Time for a rebuild.

a pcv valve that is totally plugged up with sludge can cause this ... check the vent tube at the top left of the head goes into the air filter box ...

or

it needs a rebuild ...

i love the interwebs -

Quote:
rings are one of the best parts of your engine to break, because your vehicle will generally still run but with blue smoke. Whereas if you had a knocking rod bearing, your engine would likely just explode at some random time on the freeway and leave you stranded. Ring issues will get worse over time, but they are less likely to lead to catastrophic engine failure. That said, the added friction from damaged rings can put stress on other engine components and shorten the engines overall life.

Dad screwed up big time back in the 70's over his Mustang that had PCV valve trouble. Was "blowing oil out the dipstick." He changed the engine, injured his back, and got discouraged and sold it because it didn't perform like the old engine. Went from a 260 to a 289. It was a 1964.5 year model.

By the way, he hurt his back actually carrying that 289 V8 in his arms.  Shocked

Sometimes it helps to know what's going on. Huh

I read that a different way the first time. I imagined the EPA kicking him in the butt every time the bike puffed smoke. In that case, yes, it would hurt to ride it like that. Wink

All is not lost.
As Gizzo said
There seems to be a pattern.
I had a buddy who had a 260,, little car would hop.. man that was fun..

I gather that 289 Hi-Po wouldn't burn rubber like that  little 260 would, if at all.

Strange, ain't it?

A standard 289 is not a HiPo. Either 289 would spank a 260.

BTW, the 64-1/2 cars didn't have a PCV valve. They had a road draft tube.  Wink
