Is THIS the dreaded plug/cap leak??
04/14/16 at 17:30:25
I recently acquired an '87 that hadn't run in years. Went through the basics; replaced battery, drained fuel, added fresh fuel, cleaned carb, plug, ect.. and finally got her fired up. The only issue is that I have an oil/air leak on the rear facing side of the head, on the right side of the carb. When I kill the engine, it seems like pressurized oil/air is leaking from in there..

Is this the infamous "plug/cap" leak or something else?
Thanks

It could be - but generally the signs are more obvious at the right front corner of the cylinder.....the bottom of the plug can be seen at the right front of the cylinder.....along the left side of the exhaust header.....back in the hole. Most leaks spread the oil out the front and sides of the cylinder when the air blows it around.

I'll try to take some more pictures today. I know the plug is in the front, but it seemed like the oil leak was on this side of the engine..

I have an 87 and that was a sign of the leak for me. I pulled it apart and glued it back on. It's worth taking a look and replacing anyway.
