The only two places you can access the oil system are the two plugs on the right side engine cover......on the front and bottom near the oil filter.
You can take either one of these ports out, and replace it with a sender or tube adapter for a gauge.

I think I read at idle the pressure is something like 10 psi and at high RPM it's around 50 psi. Anyone have any real numbers?

I think at idle it drops to 5 psi, maybe more on a new savage.
another good reason not to lope along at speed.
yeah, 50 at speed.
And as far as a pressure gage, I think this would be a good application for an idiot light. Honda has them on the '71 cb500. I don't know if it's compatible though.

the 71 CB500 oil pressure sending unit could be made to work if I find the right fittings
or just do something similar to this:

Trail Tech has a lot of metric fittings to adapt their temperature sender.....I bet one would work for the pressure sender. (I hope you like red).
