Stp oil treatment
04/10/16 at 17:51:29

So I was reading an old post about someone who had a slipping clutch and he was doing a bunch of oil changes with like 50% of that Lucas oil treatment. Is it bad to use this stuff? I've used it a few times in my s40 but only about 10 or 15 percent at a time? Is there a grave danger in the future? I'm also running 10 40 mc oil and I plan to do the swap to rotella. Thanks in advance.

There is no
Too soon
for switching to Rotella.
Anything not good for a wet clutch is bad.
You don't have to outsmart the engine. It's okay to add some ZDDP, but more isn't better, so, know what you are doing before you do it.
What will get ya is, run a few hundred miles, check the oil, perfect,, and the brain relaxes a little bit.
Get a thousand miles on that Oil and Then run a few hundred miles,,, and, shazzam, down on oil..

Usage rate changes as the oil gets beaten up by running through the gears and getting sheared and crushed. My opinion.

Swapping to Rotella sometimes can improve a bad clutch. It's a wet clutch and Rotella has detergents made for dirty diesel engines. The oil can clean a dirty, glazed clutch.  Wink

Really? Which rotella is the best for these engines? I'm guessing the most expensive right?

Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 is the best, it's a synthetic oil.  There is also a 15w-40 version which is conventional and also a great oil.  Both versions have a pretty high amount of ZDDP compared to most motorcycle specific oils, which will help to keep your engine running smoothly.

Just plain ol' Rotella. You can use the synthetic version if you ride in a really hot climate or idle a lot. It doesn't break down as easily in the heat as regular dino oil.

Yes, I use it in my 2003 Savage.  Also sorry about deleting my original response, didn't notice the quote button there so figured I should use it!

One bottle isn't going to be enough, and I would be absolutely sure to change the filter if I were changing from one type of oil to another.  Also, as a word of advice.  After you drain the oil go ahead and stand the bike upright  for a minute.  You can't get all the old stuff out sitting on the side stand.  There's another 200ml that'll come pouring out once you put her upright.
