Seat 2.0
04/01/16 at 19:54:32

I hate our seat, it's no secret. I've been looking for a daytripper style seat since I bought the bike. I've even tried to find a used beat-up seat here in the MarketPlace to "practice" on, but no luck.

So, I got some kangaroo leather from Australia and decide to have my buddy redo the seat. He can't do it. So now I have decided to redo it myself. After some exhaustive research here on the forums and other resources I did it.

Took about 6 hours and some sore fingers and back. I have a new found appreciation for the labor and costs involved with re-upholstering a motorcycle seat.

Still need momma to sew the grab strap, as the seat looks naked without it.

I took over an inch off the foam all the way around. Screwed up over the rear rectifier "hump". it is very thin over that. and a couple other spots are uber thin too. My foam was junk, dry rotted from the sun and was breaking apart as I cut.

Didn't like the seat so you made it thinner? Too comfortable for you?  Grin

Looks really good for a first timer. That's beyond my skills. I can barely make my bed!  Grin

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Not too comfortable, it was pushing me forward, I like a more laid back ride. The sides of the seat foam were forcing my thighs wider than was comfortable (I am a little dude). So I shaved the sides down and angled them in towards the center.

Ah, gotcha!  Wink

I hate riding sitting, umm, shall we say "too close to the tank". I raised the front of the seat and that helped the crotch dive but a better seat would be waaay more comfortable.

Yup, I already did the front seat lift, but still was uncomfortable. So went looking for an aftermarket seat, nope, nothing looked good to me.

And so I tried a new skill, in preparation of getting the board-tracker build going.  Wink

Nice job DesertRat-

And good choice with the Roo skin. Soft supple but very durable.

thanks guys,

thing to do different next time -
don't be a tight wad, buy a sander and new foam so that the wrinkles don't show up and look nice and smooth ...
